The site provided challenges for access and storage of materials. This four level home is built back into and up the steep gully. Work started with the construction of the waterproof concrete block basement and retaining walls. The ceiling of which is hi-bond permanent formwork, stepped to provide the base of the main bedroom and balcony above. The second level of guest bedrooms and living is also backed by a large retaining wall battened and lined. American white oak stair case connects the levels. With the top living area featuring aluminium sliding stacker doors that lead onto extensive kwila decking laid floating on top of a butynol substrate which provides waterproofing for rooms below. The outdoor living area is accessible via an exterior stair case of kwila treads laid on a steel stringer. The staircase and living areas are smartly surround by glass panelling and kwila handrails. The exterior of the home is a combination of hebel panel and hardies linear weather board. With colour steel and butynol used as roof coverings. The final product a combination of indoor outdoor living maximising the view of Queen Charlotte Sound.
